Samsung is expecting to sell 1 million Galaxy Mega 5.8 units a month due to the continued sales of the Galaxy Grand. As you may know, Samsung doesn't use AMOLED panels in their mid-end devices instead they use LCD or PLS, which they don't make themselves, so they need to get them from another company. Digitimes reported that Samsung has just placed an order of 1 million a month LCD panels to Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and Giantplus Technology, these are the two companies supplying LCD panels for the Galaxy Mega 5.8.
The Galaxy Mega 5.8 was officially announced by Samsung, along with the Galaxy Mega 6.3, yesterday. The Galaxy Mega 5.8 packs a Dual-Core 1.4GHz CPU, 1.5GB of RAM, 8 Megapixel main shooter and a 2 Megapixel front facing camera. The device runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung's Nature UX 2.0 on top of it, out of the box. We expect the Galaxy Mega 5.8 to be made available in May or June.
While the Galaxy Mega 5.8 hit the store shelves, Samsung is enjoying Galaxy Grand's continued sales. In May, panel shipments for the Grand Duos are going up to 2 million a month even though it has a low resolution (480×800). This clearly indicates that these days consumers really like smartphones with large touch panels.
