Rumor: Microsoft will offer $1 billion to Samsung for making Windows Phone devices

Samsung is the last company that needs another company's money to do something, but Microsoft is willing to offer up to $1 billion in support to the Korean manufacturer anyway, in a bid to lure them towards making more Windows Phone devices. The news come from Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin and should be taken with a pinch of salt, though it might not be too far-fetched that Microsoft really is thinking of taking this step.

Why? Because once Microsoft buys Nokia, which holds more than 90 percent of the Windows Phone (WP) market, the Redmond company will be pretty much the sole runner in the WP race, so courting other manufacturers to put a higher focus on the ecosystem is something they'd want to do in any way possible. Samsung is already expected to be prepping up a new Windows Phone handset, and the free money could be Microsoft's desperate move to get the manufacturer to focus some of its resources on Windows Phone as well, instead of just Android and Tizen.
