Following a report last month that suggested that Samsung is working on a Gear smartwatch with calling functionality built in, a new report has surfaced that is claiming to put a name to the device. According to The Korea Herald, the new Gear will likely be called the Samsung Gear Solo, and will be launched in South Korea by Samsung and SK Telecom in the coming weeks. Lending credence to this claim is the fact that Samsung recently applied for a patent with the Gear Solo name – it's unclear if the Gear Solo will be exclusive to Korea, though sources of the publication aren't ruling out the possibility of a worldwide launch later down the line
As the previous report revealed, the new Gear variant will be equipped with a USIM module and will include built-in radios for receiving and making calls. Battery life would be one of the biggest concerns for a smartwatch that has to connect to voice networks, but hopefully Samsung will have everything figured out before it launches the Gear Solo in markets.
