Last week, reports of a fault with the camera on some Galaxy S5 units cropped up, which was causing the camera app to fail to load after a few days of use. Samsung had acknowledged that it was offering free replacements but didn't offer a reason for the issue at the time, but it has now revealed that the fault occurred due to an issue with the software component that stores the necessary information for the phone to run the camera. The company has also confirmed that new units coming off the assembly line do not have the problem, and that only a “very limited” number of Galaxy S5s are affected.

“We have discovered that the issue has been seen in a very limited portion of early production Galaxy S5 units, and was caused by complications in the ROM (Read Only Memory) component which stores the information necessary to operate the camera,” Samsung told Reuters. Those with affected units can turn in their faulty device to the carrier or retailer they bought it from, and can also contact Samsung's customer support if they bought it directly from the company's website.
