If you're after the Galaxy S5 Active but just don't want to sign a deal with AT&T, then you might just have gotten the chance to settle for the next best thing, at least if you're willing to go into a contract with Sprint instead. That next best thing is the Galaxy S5 Sport, a new variant of the Galaxy S5 that comes with three physical navigation keys on the front like the Galaxy S5 Active, but retains the textured back of the standard Galaxy S5, albeit with rubber casing on the edges for a better grip.
The Galaxy S5 Sport carries the same IP67 rating for water and dust resistance as the Galaxy S5, meaning it won't be as rugged as the Galaxy S5 Active. The phone will come with goodies such as free one-year access to MapMyFitness MVP and a six-month premium subscription to Spotify, as part of Sprint's new Fit Live Hub, which is the carrier's own way of saying that it is going after the health and fitness market, something Samsung has taken a strong interest in as well.
The hardware on the Galaxy S5 Sport remains the same as the Galaxy S5's, including a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 5.1-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, 16-megapixel camera, fingerprint and heart rate sensors, and a 2,800 mAh battery. It will be offered in Electric Blue and Cherry Red color options from July 25th, with a special offer that will get buyers a 50 percent discount on the Gear Fit.
