Samsung Galaxy Alpha to be unveiled on August 4th (update could be August 13)

Usually, at this time of the year, everyone looks forward to the next device in Samsung's popular Galaxy Note lineup. However, some of the pre-release limelight of the next Galaxy Note has been stolen by Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Alpha, mainly due to the fact that the device will be the first Android phone from Samsung to feature a metallic construction. We have already offered an exclusive look at some of the Galaxy Alpha's hardware, and today we can confirm that the device will be officially announced on August 4th, instead of sometime in mid-August as other leaks had mentioned.

The early August announcement makes sense – it will give Samsung a month or so to let the excitement around the Galaxy Alpha die down before taking the stage and unveiling the Galaxy Note 4 in September. For those wondering why Samsung would want the excitement around its first metal-clad Android phone wane, it's because the Galaxy Alpha is not meant as a flagship device. Instead, it will feature a mix of high-end and mid-range hardware – a 4.8-inch 720p display, 32 GB of non-expandable internal storage, a fingerprint scanner – and will be a lesser variant of the Galaxy S5, similar to the Galaxy S5 mini.

Update: Samsung might announce the Galaxy Alpha on August 13.
