Samsung's first metallic smartphone, the Galaxy Alpha, is now on sale in the UK as was scheduled by the company. Carphone Warehouse is selling the handset in black and white on a two-year contract and will also offer the silver and blue colors from October 3. For those wanting to take the unlocked route, the phone is available from Unlocked Mobiles for £499.87; the phone will also go on sale from Phones 4u, Clove and Expansys, with Phones 4u to get exclusive dibs on the gold variant, though neither of them is shipping the device right away.
The Galaxy Alpha features a 4.7-inch HD display, an octa-core Exynos 5430 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel rear camera, 32GB of non-expandable memory, an 1,860 mAh battery, fingerprint and heart rate scanners, and Android 4.4.4. It sports a metal rim on the sides, and is the slimmest Galaxy smartphone ever at 6.7 mm. The phone will go on sale in some other countries over the weekend, and by September 26 over in Canada.
