Samsung has joined forces with Oculus to step into the world of virtual reality. Its first headset, the Gear VR, is going to be released later this fall. Oculus and Samsung have also been working on a developer device called Gear VR Innovator Edition which will be released in the coming months as well.

In order to provide developers with a platform where they can sell their applications and media content the Facebook-owned virtual reality company has announced the “Oculus Platform” store. Developers will be able to offer their content here for the Samsung Gear VR. Oculus aims to have this platform up and running across native mobile apps, desktop browsers as well as VR devices.

Some of the apps that Oculus has developed itself will debut on the new platform, these include the Oculus 360 Photos and Videos and the Oculus Cinema application. It will essentially function as a launcher for VR devices allowing users to access content and applications easily.

Later this fall developers will be able to purchase the Gear VR Innovator Edition. Before the end of next month the mobile SDK will be available for download via the Oculus Developer Center.
