Next year, the 64-bit Snapdragon 810 chip is expected to power most of the major flagship lineups in the Android World, including the Galaxy S6 as we had earlier reported. However, a report from Business Korea is suggesting that several issues with the Snapdragon 810 could delay the launch of the Galaxy S6 and other flagship devices. One of these issues is that the CPU overheats after reaching a certain voltage and in turn reduces performance considerably through throttling, while another has to do with an error in the Adreno 430 GPU drivers, according to the industry insider quoted by Business Korea.
Now, this is one rumor that should be taken with several pinches of salt, as Qualcomm will likely be able to find fixes for whatever issues the Snapdragon 810 is facing and put them into mass production in time for use in smartphones. Qualcomm doesn't exactly have a choice – with Apple's surprising launch of a 64-bit CPU in the iPhone 5s last year, Qualcomm and other chip makers have been working hard and fast to come up with competing high-end chipsets of their own, and such issues will probably not stand in the way of a timely official launch of the Snapdragon 810.
We should remind you that the Galaxy S6 will also have an Exynos variant, powered by the 64-bit Exynos 7420, though Samsung will most likely hold the release of this model if the problems with the Snapdragon 810 aren't resolved in time by Qualcomm.
