[Updated] Sigh, another rehashed rumor: Samsung Galaxy S6 to reportedly be announced at CES 2015

This is one rumor that you should not take seriously at all, but according to the Korean media, the Galaxy S6 might get announced at CES in January 2015, alongside its curved screen variant (which might never make it to market.) Right off the bat, this seems like a rumor that has little chance of being true – we've heard almost every year that the next Galaxy S flagship is to be announced early, but until now, Samsung has always followed a strict schedule when it comes to taking the wraps off each new Galaxy S smartphone.

The report comes from Korean publication Chosun Biz, which cites analysts as saying that the announcement will come early. According to the same analysts, Samsung is aiming to sell 45 million units of the Galaxy S6, including 10 million units of the Edge variant. While that estimate might turn out to be eventually correct, it's worth pointing out again that the Galaxy S6 will most likely not make an appearance at CES. It's possible Samsung could make an exception this time around and actually announce the S6 earlier than expected, but unless really concrete info comes along, you should expect the announcement to come sometime in late February or early March.

UPDATE: We asked Samsung Benelux for their take on the rumor, and received a very standard reply that says “We cannot comment on rumors as off now.”
