Samsung's plans to simplify its naming strategy for smartphones will see lineups like the Galaxy A, E and J make their way to the market in the coming months (the Galaxy A lineup has already been made fully official.) We've exclusively revealed full specifications of various devices in the Galaxy A and E series in the past, and now, we've managed to dig up info on the Galaxy J1, the first device in the Galaxy J series. The Galaxy J1 (SM-J100) has been spotted online in the past couple of weeks), so we already know some of its specs, but one of our sources has given us info to fill in the blanks.

The Galaxy J1 will feature a 4.3-inch TFT LCD display of WVGA (800×480) resolution -the phone was spotted with a 4.8-inch display in a benchmark, but given our source has never been incorrect in the past, we're inclined to believe the device that appeared in the benchmark might have been a test model. The J1 will be powered by a 64-bit quad-core Marcell PXA1908 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz, and also come with 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 4GB of expandable internal storage, and a 1,850mAh battery.

The J1 will also feature LTE connectivity, though it will run on Android 4.4 KitKat instead of Android 5.0, unlike the Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7. In terms of dimensions, the Galaxy J1 will measure 129×68×8.9 mm and weigh 123g – not the lightest or thinnest of phones, but this is pretty much a standard affair for entry-level devices.

Speaking of entry-level, we've been told the Galaxy J series will be somewhat similar to the Galaxy Y, suggesting it will be priced quite low yet offer specs better than what Samsung has offered in the past on low-end devices. There's no telling when the Galaxy J1 will be announced; Samsung seems to be working on a lot of new devices, and it remains to be seen which of these will make their official appearance before the other.
