Samsung reportedly ditches Snapdragon 810 for Galaxy S6

In a couple of months Samsung is due to show off its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S6, and it was a common assumption that this smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. However recent reports have suggested that the new processor from Qualcomm is facing overheating issues. A few months back it was also rumored that devices like the Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 will be delayed because Qualcomm needs more time to fix the issues in Snapdragon 810.

Bloomberg reports that after testing a new version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and concluding that it was also overheating Samsung has decided to ditch the processor for its upcoming flagship and go with its own Exynos processors.

While there has been no confirmation of this from Qualcomm and Samsung, this decision would deal a big blow to the chipmaker which has been a longtime partner of Samsung. The Korean company has its own chipmaking division and the Exynos processors have been advanced enough to power a flagship like the Galaxy S6.

The report doesn't say that there's no possibility of a Qualcomm-powered variant of the Galaxy S6 being released at some point later this year, but to meet its desired release window, Samsung may go with its own processors for all Galaxy S6 variants initially.
