Critics started writing off Samsung, but the company launched the Galaxy Alpha as its first ‘premium built' phone to win back lost love. In India, the phone was launched back in September last year for 39,990 INR or US$650, but has received numerous price cuts to finally retail for around the 27,000 INR (US$437) mark in the country. This translates to a price cut of 32% percent in under 5 months; it perhaps goes to show how brutally price-sensitive the Indian market can be. Last month, Samsung also launched the budget Z1 smartphone, which happens to be its first ever Tizen-powered smartphone for 5,700 INR, to compete against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 1S, and devices from the Android One scheme.
