Samsung may be under pressure from Apple when it comes to smartphone sales but the company has overtaken its rival in popularity among American consumers, this according to a report by Harris Poll. Samsung has been gaining ground since the past four years and for the first time ever it has overtaken Apple to clinch the #3 spot on the list while Apple has fallen from #3 down to #9. The report shows that American consumers rank Samsung highly in four metrics, emotional appeal, financial performance, product quality and services as well as vision and leadership to be precise.

While the report doesn't go into much detail about the reasons why these metrics appeal more to consumers it does point out that Samsung's rise in “product quality and services” might be due to the fact that it has opened pop-up stores inside countless Best Buy locations across the country which directly deal with consumers.
