Samsung is very serious about wearable technology, it was among the very first major companies to start developing and selling smartwatches while it continues to innovate and patent new technologies that might make their way into wearable devices of the future. A report today from Lux Research reveals that Samsung is actually the biggest patent filer in the field of wearable technology, accounting for 4% of the 41,301 patents that have been published on wearable technologies between 2010 and May 2015.

Following Samsung in second place is Qualcomm which accounts for 3% of these patents and Apple comes in third place with 2.2%, the remaining majority of the filers are developers that are not associated with the top 15 companies that file these patents and they make up a whopping 77% of this group. Health is a major area of focus for Samsung as 25% of its wearable filings relate to health. It won't really surprise anyone to see Samsung on top of the list as it was quick to launch a smartwatch back in 2013 and while its wearable devices haven't really taken off, Samsung seems adamant to soldier on and cement its footing in the wearable device market.
