The Gear S2 was released in a handful of countries yesterday with more receiving the smartwatch in the near future, Samsung's new smartwatch is not only compatible with its own smartphones but also with other Android-powered smartphones provided they're running version 4.4 KitKat or higher. Users will need the Gear Manager app to configure various features and settings which is why Samsung has now released the app for other Android devices in the Google Play Store.
Users will get more or less the same experience when using the Gear S2 with a non-Samsung device but there are certain features that only work if the connected device is a Galaxy smartphone, like Samsung Pay, so those who would like to make payments on the go with their smartwatch must use the Gear S2 with a Galaxy device. The latest version of the Gear Manager can now be downloaded on other Android devices, simply visit apps.samsung.com/gear in the browser and tap on Other Devices to be taken to a Play Store listing for the app.
