Samsung applies for a lot of patents and trademarks every year, but not every technology that you see in the patents gets used in consumer products. The company has previously filed patent applications for things like scrollable tablets, body fat measurement technology for smartphones, and tab style smartphones. Now, the company has filed a trademark application on November 27, 2015 for the term ‘Duo Pixel'.
We can't truly say what ‘Duo Pixel' means. However, we reported last month about Samsung experimenting with a new 12-megapixel 1/2-inch camera sensor for the Galaxy S7. It was being reported that the camera sensor has a pixel size that is far larger than usual smartphone camera pixels and utilizes dual-PD (dual photodiode) technology.
This could be something similar to Canon's Dual Pixel Sensor, which has two photodiodes for each pixel area rather than a single photodiode, and this makes the camera focus much faster while capturing images as well as while recording videos. However, we might just be grasping at straws here and this trademark might be related to something different altogether.
