In Australia Samsung is suing the organization that grants patents to companies.
The Korean company said that the patent office hasn't followed the correct protocol when it gave Apple a number of standard patents.

The Korean company strives for four patents to be voided, which according to Apple the Galaxy Tab 10.1 violates. Samsung claims that the patents granted to Apple never should have been,because they have copied previous applications.
These patents include dealing with the slide-to-unlock feature and scrolling on a tablet. Australia has two types of patents: standard and innovation. The default type is harder to get and offers 20 years protection. These are ideas that require a longer development and will continue for a longer time on the market.
Innovation vs. standard
The innovation type is easier and faster to obtain, but offers only eight years of protection. This type applies to products containing only a moderate pace compared to existing technology and a short commercial life. According to Australian rules innovation patents can only be accepted before they are converted to standard patents. Samsung says that the patent office made a mistake to give Apple standard patents, because it comes to innovation copies of patents that were already accepted.
The case against the patent office is on 25 June.
