That Samsung dominates the Android (and mobile) market is not something anyone can doubt today, but the latest numbers coming from Localytics show just how far things have progressed for the Korean manufacturer – today, Samsung has a 63 percent share of Android mobile devices, including smartphones, phablets (or “fonblets”, as Samsung likes to call them), and tablets. This is almost double the total market share held by all other manufacturers combined, with eight out of the 10 most popular Android phones manufactured by Samsung.
When it comes to tablets, Samsung holds an equally impressive share of 53 percent. Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy Tab 2 series of tablets are the most popular, accounting for almost 40 percent of all active Android tablets. Combined with the Galaxy S series of devices, the Tab 2 series is mostly responsible for Samsung's impressive grasp on the Android market, and with 100+ million Galaxy S and Note phones expected to ship in total this year, it's a grasp that other manufacturers of Android devices will find extremely hard to loosen.
