According to a Reuters report, Samsung (and other manufacturers) is expected to start implementing fingerprint sensors in their smartphones from next year, in order to keep up with Apple. Fingerprint Cards CEO Johan Carlstrom says Samsung will be launching a smartphone with some form of fingerprint identification next year, and that the company is hoping to become one of the suppliers for providing some of the needed fingerprint sensors.
A Samsung official had earlier said the company wasn't developing fingerprint technology, but that was quite the vague statement that could have just meant that it wasn't developing technology of its own, so there is a chance the Galaxy S5 or Note 4 will sport a fingerprint sensor. However, Samsung is also been said to be working on eye-scanning technology for its devices, so it remains to be seen which, if either, techniques is used by the manufacturer any time soon.
