Last month, it was announced that both Samsung and Apple have agreed to attend a mediation session to discuss a possible out-of-court settlement to end their patent fight. ZDNet Korea alleges that Samsung CEO JK Shin and Apple’s CEO Tim Cook met last week in the U.S. to discuss the terms of the settlement, but that they were unable to come to an agreement. A Samsung spokesperson that ZDNet talked to said that, “we can’t confirm whether the two CEO met, or if they did, what the results were.”
Apple and Samsung have been embroiled in a patent battle since 2011 across several countries. In the U.S., a trial date for the final verdict in the patent infringement case has been set for March 19th. If Samsung loses, it might have to pay Apple around $930 million in damages. In the EU, both manufacturers have submitted a final list of infringed patents, with a trial date set for March 31.
