There’s a lot of stuff that happens in the tech industry, something that is especially true when it comes to giants like Samsung. If you missed out on some (or all) of what happened in the last 24 hours or so, well, here’s a recap of all the big things that went down.
After a long while, details on when an actual Tizen phone could launch came out – current reports suggest a launch within the next few weeks in India and Russia. The Galaxy S5 Prime decided to make an appearance in Samsung's home country, while murmurs of a new Galaxy Note 3 variant headed to AT&T along with a Galaxy S5 Active for Sprint were heard. Samsung's long rumored 13.3-inch tablet also reared its face, though we didn't exactly get any details except its screen resolution (hint: it's the same as Samsung recent high-end tablets) and its internal codename.
There were also quite a few software updates, and major ones at that – the Galaxy S5 got updated with a faster camera and improved fingerprint scanning, while Android 4.4 KitKat began rolling out to the Galaxy Note 3 on Verizon and the Galaxy Note 8.0. We also saw Samsung (and Seagate) launch a new portable Wi-Fi-enabled USB 3.0 hard disk with a battery for charging for phones, which certainly takes the award for one of the most bizarre devices we've seen.
Here's the full rundown:
- • Details leak on Samsung's 13.3-inch tablet, codenamed Warhol
- • Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update rolling out
- • Samsung Wireless media device combines a battery, 1.5TB hard drive, and Wi-Fi hotspot
- • Galaxy Note 8.0 getting KitKat update in South Korea and Poland
- • Samsung SM-G906K (Galaxy S5 Prime) appears on Korean website
- • SamMobile firmware page having server issues, details here
- • AT&T to possibly get new Galaxy Note device, Galaxy S5 Active headed to Sprint?
- • Galaxy S5 update brings faster camera and improved fingerprint scanning
- • Samsung to launch Tizen phones in India and Russia soon, possibly four of them
- • Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Kun-hee suffers heart attack, now stable
As usual, a lot of devices got firmware updates as well, so here’s a list of all the updates that rolled to Samsung devices yesterday (as always, you can find all the firmware you need in our firmware section):
