Two weeks ago, SamMobile gave you folks a first glimpse at Samsung’s upcoming miniature variant of its flagship device, the Galaxy S5 Mini, after receiving a few pictures and complete specifications from an anonymous tipster. Today, the same anonymous tipster has sent in screenshots of Antutu benchmark and CPU-Z, confirming the specifications we were provided earlier, and a heap of new pictures of the device, some alongside the Galaxy S5 for size comparison.
Antutu benchmark and CPU-Z confirm that the device is indeed equipped with an unannounced Samsung Exynos 3 Quad (Exynos 3470) SoC with a clock speed of 1.4GHz, Quad-core Mali-400 MP4 GPU clocked at 450MHz, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage and 8 megapixel main camera shooter and 2.1 megapixel front facing camera, both capable of shooting Full HD 1080p video. Other specs include a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor and the usual wide range of connectivity options: LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, IR Blaster, NFC, GPS with A-GPS support and GLONASS, MicroUSB port and more.
Even though the back cover sports a rubber gasket, unlike the Galaxy S5, there is no flap covering the USB port. Initially, we were a bit sceptical about the device being IP67 certified. However, this time the anonymous tipster has confirmed that the device indeed features IP67 water and dust protection. So it looks like Samsung has managed to get rid of the USB flap cover and still make the device water-resistant.
Software-wise, the Galaxy S5 Mini runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Samsung’s latest TouchWiz UX and comes with all the software features found on its bigger brother, the Galaxy S5 – Ultra Power Saving Mode, Private Mode, Kids Mode etc – out of the box.
A release date wasn’t mentioned by the anonymous tipster, hence we are not exactly sure when Samsung will officially be introducing the device. Samsung’s GALAXY Premiere 2014 event is just around the corner but according to the invitation and the just released teaser video, it looks like the event will solely be for the Korean giant’s upcoming flagship AMOLED tablet – Galaxy Tab S. However, we won’t be surprised if Samsung decided to introduce the device at its GALAXY Premiere event, as the whole press will be present there under one roof.
Thanks, Anonymous Tipster!
