The Black Edition of the Galaxy S4 mini didn't really get much attention, mostly because it was launched only in a few select markets, but it seems Samsung still thought it was important enough to be updated to KitKat before the standard variant of the stripped down Galaxy S4. The device has begun receiving the chocolaty update from Belgian provider Proximus – it's unclear if the update is rolling out over the air, but it can be grabbed from Samsung Kies (and from our firmware section, for those who aren't afraid of updating their device manually, though we wouldn't suggest it in this case as it is an update for a specific carrier.)
As for the standard variant of the Galaxy S4 mini (you know, the one that doesn't come with a special Black Edition moniker just because Samsung wanted to unnecessarily extend its huge smartphone lineup), it is expected to start receiving KitKat this month, and it shouldn't be long before Samsung starts pushing the update. As always, we will be sure to let you know when that happens.
