The biggest attempt to match the sleek and beautiful form factor of Apple's MacBook was the Ultrabook, a platform by Intel that saw many manufacturers come out with extremely thin laptops that offered better battery life than standard Windows laptops and higher resolution displays. However, Ultrabooks never managed to take off in a way companies might have hoped, but it looks like Samsung is giving it another go with a new Ultrabook that it will show off at CES next month.

Samsung will be showcasing the Series 9 2015 Edition Ultrabook, which will feature a 12.2-inch display with a resolution of 2560×1600 (WQXGA) and a brightness of 700 nits with an adaptive feature for adjusting brightness according to the lighting conditions. The Ultrabook will be powered by the Intel Core M-5Y10c Broadwell processor, along with 2GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage.

The best feature of the new Ultrabook seems to be its battery life – Samsung is claiming 12 hours of battery backup, achieved with the help of the Ultra Power Saving Mode that we have seen on the company's handsets. Windows 8.1 will help as well, as it is the most optimized version of Windows till date.

With Samsung having exited the laptop market in Europe, it's interesting to see the company experimenting with a form factor that has failed to make a dent in the laptop market. Details on availability and pricing will likely be given at CES, which is only week or so away at this point.
