Samsung has been trying hard to get its Tizen operating system out in the market for long, and it is only now that the OS is getting some headway. Samsung also said that all of its 2015 smart TV's would run on Tizen, which happens to be an Android rival of sorts. The first crop of these was showcased earlier today. However, users of Samsung's older-gen smart TV's won't be getting Tizen, a Samsung executive told CNET at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
“It is not possible as far as I know. We've been discussing that. Right now I don't believe we're going to be able to go back and combine those operating systems,” said Joe Stinziano, who's the executive vice president of Samsung Electronics America.
Samsung had earlier given its Galaxy Gear smartwatch a software overhaul by seeding the Tizen OS over-the-air, even though the device had initially been launched with the pre-Wear Android OS. As it stands, however, its smart TV's won't be getting the same treatment.
