Today, Samsung has announced that it has invested around $84 million (or INR 517 crores to be exact) to expand its manufacturing facility in Noida, India to ramp up its production capacity and strengthen the company's position in the Indian smartphone market. Over the course of its 20 years of existence in the country, Samsung has been able to set up two manufacturing plants and three research labs, employing close to 45,000 personnel. The company has also invested in a modern training centre, which is spread over 35,000 sq. feet within the manufacturing facility, to improve skills of its employees. Samsung is also planning to manufacture the Z1 in India, which is its first commercially available Tizen-based smartphone.
According to a report from IDC, India is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world, and Samsung is the biggest smartphone brand in the country with a market share of 24 percent. However, the South Korean smartphone giant is facing cut-throat competition from India's Micromax, which has around 20 percent smartphone market share in the country.
Samsung has invested Rs 517 crore for the expansion of the Noida plant under the UP Mega Policy, reaffirming Samsung’s commitment and contribution towards India’s manufacturing sector. Uttar Pradesh is one of the most important states for Samsung and the expansion of the Noida Mobile unit will further strengthen our presence in the country and enhance our manufacturing operations. The Noida mobile factory is a star performer and rates as one of the best facilities across the globe. Currently, over 11,000 Samsung employees are working in UP and we are looking forward to create more job opportunities in the state.
