
Another advantage of this move will be the ease with which one could differentiate between an original accessory and a counterfeit. At first they're said to appear in accessories like flip covers, and for the Galaxy S Edge they'll allow use of curved screens without having to open or close covers. This doesn't mean that accessory manufacturers won't be able to build products without Samsung's authentication chips but they run the risk of having their products perceived as counterfeits. Moreover they won't enable direct control of the device like chip-based accessories would.
Selling authentication chips to third parties is also seen as an opportunity for the company to offset declining profits of its mobile business.
