Samsung worked with Facebook-owned Oculus on the Gear VR and that partnership continues to this day. To entice developers to create new apps and experiences for Samsung's virtual reality headset Oculus has announced a prize pool of $1 million. Developers can compete to win cash prizes from this pool provided that they develop something new for the Gear VR Innovator Edition. There are two categories, Games and Apps or Experiences, developers can compete in either. They can sign up right now at Challenge Post.
Pitches have to be submitted by April 20th, that's a full week after Oculus Mobile VR Jam 2015 starts off on April 13th, it ends May 11th. Developers will have to submit screenshots by April 27th, videos by May 4th and have the final build ready by May 11th at 9am Pacific. Developers can compete individually, as part of an organization or a team, individual developers can find people willing to team up on Challenge Post. Top Platinum Game will get its developer $200,000 in cold hard cash, while the Platinum App or Experience will bring $100,000. There will be multiple Silver and Bronze winners with $10,000 being awarded to the Bronze victor.
Oculus is going to announce the winners in both categories on or around June 4th, 2015.
