It is common knowledge that Samsung has worked on flexible displays and it will continue to do so in the future. A rather interesting patent awarded to the company has surfaced online. It doesn't just outline a flexible display rather it details a flexible frame capable of bending forward and backwards with ease. The design will have unique sections that will open up and hold on to the user's clothing. This would appeal to active users who like to take their smartphones along on a run for example. Users would not have to wear an extra clip. They will be able to open up the device and attach it to their clothing.

The patent relates to a fully flexible electronic device that could have a flexible frame which has a determined radius of curvature. A flexible battery pack, flexible substrate in the inner space of the case frame and a flexible display will be required for such a smartphone to come together. Materials that the case frame might be fashioned out of include a synthetic resin, a glass material, a metallic material, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer and Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic. Its flexible nature might allow the device to return to its non-flexure state once an applied external force is removed.

Samsung filed this patent application with the US Patent and Trademark Office in Q2 2014. The USPTO published it earlier this month. Given the fact that this is only a patent it cannot be said for sure if and when Samsung will bring such a device to market.
