Samsung's Gear VR headset has been available for quite a while now through Samsung and Best Buy's online stores. We did hear earlier this year that the virtual reality headset will soon arrive at Best Buy's retail locations as well. The retailer has already been working with Samsung to provide demonstrations of the Gear VR. Just last month it rolled out demos of the Gear VR at 100 retail stores across the United States. However despite the fact that demonstrations were being offered in-store customers willing to purchase it couldn't pick one up right there and then. They had to place an order online.
That changes tomorrow. 100 brick-and-mortar Best Buy locations across the country will have the Gear VR in stock. More retail locations will start keeping the virtual reality headset in stock as the weeks and months go by. The headset is aimed more at developers and enthusiasts as opposed to the average user, hence the “Innovator Edition” tag. There's obviously no compulsion though that you need to be a developer in order to purchase one. Anyone who has $199.99 can buy the Gear VR from Best Buy's selected retail stores from March 27, 2015.
A Galaxy Note 4 is also required for the headset to work. Lucky for you Best Buy is running a promotion in which it's offering a steep discount on the Galaxy Note 4. All the more reason to purchase the two together if you don't already have the Galaxy Note 4. Samsung also announced an updated version of the VR headset recently which supports the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge. It will arrive once the new flagships hit the market on April 10th.
