It might not be as publicized as much as the patent battles between Samsung and Apple, but it's not a secret that the world's largest smartphone maker is often embroiled in lawsuits with its hometown rival LG. From phones and displays to washing machines and refrigerators, Samsung and LG have quite a bit of bad blood between them, but it seems the Korean manufacturers have now decided that these lawsuits do more harm than good and have agreed to a settlement.
Both companies released a statement saying they will withdraw all complaints against each other, while also requesting the courts to not be too harsh while coming to a conclusion in ongoing cases. Samsung and LG have settled out of court in the past when it comes to their display technologies, but the new settlement extends to all of their businesses and products. The biggest reason no doubt was the amount of resources that are lost in these patent battles, and we can only hope the two companies will put an even greater focus on innovating where it actually matters (Samsung is already doing that, if the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are any indication.)
