Samsung continues to improve its home-baked KNOX security platform for mobile devices. First, it partnered with BlackBerry to provide improved end-to-end security for its Android devices. Today, Samsung has announced that it has partnered with Trustonic – a leading Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) provider in the industry – to bring Trustonic for KNOX, which already comes embedded into the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge. It will be provided to other Galaxy devices through a software update.
Rick Segal, Vice President of Enterprise Business Team, IT & Mobile Communication division at Samsung Electronics, said, “We understand the importance of evolving Samsung KNOX to meet the ever-changing needs of enterprise and professional mobile security. We will continue to provide solutions to our customers and partners that allow them to feel confident and comfortable in using their mobile devices in the workplace. Embedding the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge with Trustonic for KNOX will enable ecosystem players to build new services and applications that will take mobile security to a new level.”
Trustonic for KNOX combines security features of Samsung KNOX with Trustonic's TEE's hardware-based security to “provide a trusted platform for service providers to deliver an enriched, simplified and consistent user experience”. It simplifies user authentication through simpler passwords, protects against click-jacking attempts, and increases end-user confidence about genuine transaction approvals. Using Trustonic for KNOX, enterprise, government, and other vertical industry clients can use a powerful and secure platform for incorporating strong user authentication, single sign-on, secure tokenisation, and enhanced trust for mobile device management.
Samsung is improving its KNOX security suite day-by-day by adding important features and by bring collaborating with industry-leading partners. Last year, US Department of Defence approved Samsung KNOX while the US government approved KNOX enabled devices for classified use. Google has implemented KNOX inside Android 5.0 Lollipop, which is a strong sign that Samsung is moving in the right direction when it comes to data security on mobile devices.
