The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are cutting edge in pretty much every aspect. They have Samsung's powerful Exynos 7420 processor, a beautiful display (curved on the S6 edge), one of the industry's best smartphone cameras, and things like an accurate fingerprint sensor and more, packed under stunning bodies that feel extremely premium thanks to their metal and glass construction.
But there's one area where both the Galaxy S6 phones are behind their successors, and that's battery life. While the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are the first Galaxy S flagships to come with wireless charging support out of the box, the two devices feature surprisingly small batteries despite the powerful hardware ticking away inside (2,550 mAh and 2,600 mAh on the S6 and S6 edge respectively.)
Okay, so Samsung's extremely efficient Exynos CPU and Lollipop's battery enhancements do negate some of the effects of having a smaller battery, but there's no denying that those battery capacities aren't enough for devices of this caliber. Add to that the fact that the phones have their batteries sealed in, and it's an even bigger con that shouldn't have made it to the list.
I've been using the Galaxy S6 edge since April 10, the day it launched in 20 countries around the world. Now, it's only been around four days since I've used it as my main smartphone, but the battery life for me has, so far, been pretty disappointing. Being a new and rather stunning device, I have found it hard to keep it down, which is no doubt one of the reasons why the endurance has been pretty average – I've had to charge the phone by 7 in the evening after taking it off the charger at 10:30 AM in the morning. I've disabled all of the Edge screen features, but that hasn't helped the phone do much better.
My friends at SamMobile have fared slightly better, but even they haven't found the battery life to be dependable by any means (though things are bound to change as the devices settle into our usage patterns, and with the help of software updates.) Which is why I thought it would be a great idea to ask our readers – who have bought either the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge – what kind of battery life have they been getting out of their device.
Has it been better than you were expecting, or are you constantly reaching for the charger, either because your phone was already low on battery or because you were scared it would run out sooner or later?
