People who are going to buy the Galaxy S6 or the Galaxy S6 edge from a major carrier in the United States should keep in mind that they might not be able to access all of the features and preloaded apps on their new device that they might expect. Carriers in the US are known for making such tweaks and they've stuck to this policy with Samsung's new handsets as well. Reddit users at the Galaxy S6 community have put together a list of apps and features that each of the four major carriers, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, have removed from the Galaxy S6.
Let us start with Verizon, the country's largest mobile carrier that some affectionately call Big Red. Verizon has removed Smart Manager as well as all Microsoft apps that come preloaded with the Galaxy S6. AT&T has removed the Download Booster and Simple Sharing features from the new handset, it also axed all of Microsoft's preloaded apps and Smart Manager. Sprint customers will not be able to use Download Booster as well, the carrier has disabled Wi-Fi calling as a default option but that can be easily fixed in the Settings app. All Microsoft apps are present so at least customers will get their 100GB of free OneDrive storage. Last but not the least T-Mobile has not made any major tweaks to its units but it will limit users' ability to remove S-Finder and Quick Connect from the device's dropdown menu. While AT&T's version of the device lets users disable the capacitive lights this is not possible on T-Mobile units.
Verizon did clarify that while it has removed the apps it isn't blocking Galaxy S6 owners on its network from using them, they can download the Microsoft apps from the Google Play Store whenever they like. However this option doesn't exist for people who want to use Smart Manager, an app that Samsung created to let users easily manage battery and storage use on their device, because that app isn't available from the Play Store yet.
