Two new high-end phablets were announced by Samsung today, the S Pen-equipped Galaxy Note 5 and the curved screen-equipped Galaxy S6 edge+. Both of them have similar features and hardware specifications, with only two differences distinguishing them from each other. If you are a Galaxy Note 4 owner, there are the differences between your current phablet and the two devices that were unveiled today.
The 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display used in the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ has the same resolution as the one used in the Galaxy Note 4. However, Samsung states that it can be much brighter in outdoors, and can reproduce more accurate colors. Moreover, the screen on the Galaxy S6 edge+ is curved on both the sides. The 16-megapixel primary camera used in the S6 edge+ and the Note 5 is same as the one from the Note 4, but it can take better images and videos, thanks to improved software and image post processing.
Coming to the internal hardware, both the new devices feature a new 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor, 4GB RAM, and 32/64GB of internal storage space. Samsung has used a faster UFS 2.0 chip for storage, which is much faster than the one used in the Note 4. There's no microSD card slot in either of the devices, so you won't be able to expand the storage. Instead, Samsung is offering 100GB of free cloud storage through Microsoft OneDrive. Also, the battery capacity has been downgraded from 3,220 mAh in the Note 4 to 3,000 mAh in the Note 5 as well as the Galaxy S6 edge+. However, there's quick charging as well as wireless charging in both the devices.
There's a faster, much improved touch-based fingerprint sensor in both these new devices when compared to the swipe-based one that was used in the Galaxy Note 4. This new sensor will also be used in authenticating shopping transactions through Samsung Pay. Finally, the new version of TouchWiz UI, which is running on top of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, is faster, cleaner and better designed. It even brings support for themes through the Theme Store. The company has also brought enhanced S Pen features to the Galaxy Note 5 and improved Edge features to the Galaxy S6 edge+.
