Global hotel chain Marriott today announced the launch of “VRoom Service,” a first-of-its-kind service which allows guests to order virtual reality experiences straight from the comfort of their rooms. VRoom Service has been created in collaboration with Samsung Electronics America and it's certainly a first in the industry. At select Marriott properties guests can call the dedicated VRoom Service extension or use the hotel chain's mobile app to request the Gear VR headset with headphones. They will be hand-delivered to rooms with easy instructions, guests can loan these for up to 24 hours.
The program is being tested for a fortnight at New York Marriott Marquis and London Marriott Park Lane properties, let's see how long it takes before the company decides to offer this service at some of its other properties across the globe. What good is a VR headset if there's no content? That's why Marriott has created a new virtual travel content platform called “VR Postcards,” it brings immersive travel stories that people can experience in 360 3D with the Gear VR headset. VR postcards will be available to guests who loan the Gear VR through Marriott's VRoom service, it will also be released to the public through Samsung Milk VR premium.
