India is now one of the most lucrative markets for technology companies evident by the plethora of local and international companies that they fighting for a bigger piece of the pie. Samsung has been the leader in India's smartphone market for quite some time now and despite the tough competition from local and particularly Chinese manufacturers the company has managed to continue its reign as the leader in the third quarter of this year.
Data from Counterpoint Research shows that Samsung accounted for 23.2% of India's smartphone market in Q3 2015, a slight decrease from 24.5% in the previous quarter. Local brand Micromax was its closest competitor as its market share rose from 16.7% in Q2 2015 to 17.7% in Q3 2015. Samsung's budget handsets like the Galaxy J series are much more popular in India as opposed to flagship handsets like the Galaxy Note 5. The company is aware of this which is why just yesterday it launched a couple of budget handsets yesterday for India, the Galaxy On5 and On7 aim to ensure that Samsung continues to be the market leader in India.
