Samsung had sent out press invites earlier this week for the launch of its flagship smartphones in India, and the company has launched them today. The Galaxy S7 is priced at INR 48,900 ($730) and the Galaxy S7 edge is priced at INR 56,900 ($849) in the country. Pre-orders for these devices will start today, and Samsung will bundle a free Gear VR with every pre-order (valid till March 17). Both these smartphones will be available in Black Onyx, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium, and White Pearl colors, and will be available for purchase in India from March 18.
As expected, the South Korean smartphone giant has launched Exynos 8890-equipped variants of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge in India. These variants also feature hybrid SIM card slots, so you can either use a microSD card for storage expansion or a secondary SIM card. Currently, there's no information regarding the pricing or availability of 64GB variants of these smartphones in India. The company also mentioned that its first 360-degree camera, the Gear 360, will be launched in India during next quarter.
Manu Sharma, Director of mobile devices at Samsung India, mentioned that Galaxy S7 owners in India will get to jump the queue at more than 400 services centres across the country. The company has also introduced a layer of India-specific Samsung Concierge after-sales services for Galaxy S7 owners through its My Galaxy App. The app features ‘Fast Track Service’, ‘My Assistant’, ‘Pick up and Drop’ and other premium services. The on-call personal assistant service will be powered by Haptik Inc. from 10 AM to 6 PM every day along with a chat service. These services will also be extended to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 owners at a later stage.
The company has also partnered with Vodafone India to offer double talk-time and double data for Galaxy S7 owners.
