Online video streaming service Hulu had announced back in September last year that it would release an app for the Samsung Gear VR but we didn't hear much about it since. It turns out that Hulu had to delay the app for a few months as it needed more time to work on it. The Hulu app for Gear VR has finally been released today and it's now available for download from the Gear VR Oculus Store.
Hulu brings a few dozen 360-degree videos from partners like National Geographic, Showtime and Discovery. An original short called “The Big One” is available as well, it's about a meteor shower, Hulu has plans to bring more VR content to the app in the future. Currently all VR content is free to users without a subscription but it will monetize the VR content down the line. Hulu rival Netflix has already released an app for the Gear VR but it doesn't actually offer virtual reality videos, it merely plays flat video from its library of titles in a VR environment. In the coming months other online video services like Twitch and Vimeo are also expected to launch their Gear VR apps.
