It was reported earlier today that Samsung is going to extend its production facilities for 3D NAND flash memories by investing a few billion dollars in new production lines at its facilities in Hwasung. It was said that Samsung is taking this step to solidify its position in the memory market by increasing production capacity starting from the second half of this year. Turns out that isn't happening because Samsung has officially refuted these reports.

“The company has not set detailed plans for the investment as the 3-D NAND flash memory business has just started to take off recently,” Samsung said in a statement, reiterating that news reports suggesting otherwise are unfounded. The reports came at a time when the company's rivals like TSMC and SK hynix are working on mass production of 3D NAND flash memory chips and companies like Intel are developing new technology said to be 1,000 times faster that NAND flash memory chips, however, it may take a while for these chips enter the market.
