Samsung has today revealed that it teamed up with Super 8, founders of City Lights, to complete the first commercial installation of its P6 display in Madrid's Plaza del Callao in June. The panel itself measures in at 6 meters by 37 meters, and has been strategically positioned on the exterior of one of the plaza's tallest buildings in the heart of the shopping and entertainment district to gain attention from an estimated 51,000 cars each day and 113 million people per year; making it the perfect platform for the South Korean company to promote its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.
The P6 LED is Samsung's highest-quality advertising panel to date. It features an enhanced resolution of 960 x 5760 pixels, which produces deeper contrast and a significantly wider viewing angle than the firm's previous generation of super-sized displays. The P6 is the first monitor on the market of its size to feature a high-resolution Surface Mount Diode (SMD) board and cabinet structure. These work hand-in-hand to extend the signage's lifespan and provide continuous performance for up to 100,000 hours (11 years). Integrated temperature control and ventilation management systems also reduce energy consumption.
It's currently a mystery as to where Samsung will install its next P6 LED, but it's nice to see the panel finally hit the streets. Over the course of the next few weeks, the manufacturer will review advertising applications from local businesses in Plaza del Callao. If approved, their captivating adverts will be displayed on the board, reaching hundreds of passersby at any given moment of the day.
