Barnes & Noble tried diversifying its business a few years back by launching tablets but the company couldn't afford to make its own tablets as it was proving to be costly and they weren't exactly selling well. It has since teamed up with Samsung to release rebranded tablets with special Nook software. The company's latest tablet is simply a rebranded 7-inch Galaxy Tab A which was released back in March this year, Barnes & Noble calls it the Galaxy Tab A Nook.
This is a proper mid-range tablet as it features a 7-inch 1280 x 800 TFT display, a 1.3GHz Samsung Exynos 3475 processor with 1.5GB RAM and 8GB onboard storage with microSD card support. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. It comes with Barnes & Noble's enhanced digital bookstore experience that provides customers with instant access to B&N's vast product offerings. Nook Audiobooks will also be available on the Galaxy Tab A Nook via a software upgrade next month. It also features Nook Profiles which allows families to create up to 6 profiles enabling everyone in the family to get a personalized reading and entertainment experience on the tablet.
The Galaxy Tab A Nook can be purchased from Barnes & Noble today for $139.99 and they will also get some free content with it. Customers who already own a B&N branded tablet can upgrade to the Galaxy Tab A for $99.99.
