You might have read about the advisory that the US Federal Aviation Administration sent out warning passengers not to use the Galaxy Note 7 on an airplane, the one that wiped over $10 billion from Samsung's market value. That advisory was issued before Samsung and the US government formally recalled more than one million Galaxy Note 7 handsets in the country. The FAA has sent out another advisory which mentions that as a result of the official recall it's now illegal to use the Galaxy Note 7 on an airplane.
Consider this to be a reminder from the FAA that it's now formally illegal to use the Galaxy Note 7 on an airplane. The FAA is calling on passengers to ensure that their units are powered off and are disconnected from any charging equipment. They also have to make sure that any apps which can inadvertently turn on the phone have been disabled. Passengers who are flying with the Galaxy Note 7 are required to keep it in carry-on baggage as the handset can not be placed in checked baggage.
