It has been revealed today that Samsung has filed a patent request with the USPTO for the technology required to manufacture bendable displays. As noted by The Korea Herald, the technology will enable traditional LED displays to be folded and bent inwards. This news comes just three months after the firm was granted a patent for the software it claimed would be used to power the panels.
The South Korean publication, which maintains close ties to Samsung insiders, expects the bendable displays to be integrated into two smartphones that the firm is expected to launch in February at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. It claims that one of the devices will fold in half to make it more compact for storing, while the other will unfold from a 5-inch form factor to an 8-inch one.
