Samsung maintains its strong position in India's smartphone market. Latest data from Cyber Media Research shows that the company accounted for 32.1 percent of all 4G-compatible smartphones shipped in India in the third quarter of 2016. It's followed in second place by China's Lenovo with 14.6 percent and Lyf with 10.6 percent. Even though smartphones are rapidly becoming popular in the country, feature phones still remain in a dominant position as they account for 59 percent of the overall mobile phone market.
197.5 million mobile handsets were shipped in India by the end of September 2016, 78.4 million of those units were shipped in the third quarter alone. Cyber Media Research expects handset shipments in India to reach 265 million units by the end of this year. Smartphones are said to account for 116 million units. Data also shows that Samsung has maintained its lead in the high-end smartphone segment as its market share stands at 49.2 percent compared to Apple's 43.3 percent in second place.
Samsung leads the mobile market in India overall with a 24.6 percent market share while Lenovo and Micromax follow in second and third place with 10.4 percent and 7.5 percent respectively.
