Samsung has sold more than 1 million units of the Galaxy S8 during the pre-order period which is a new record for smartphones in its home market of South Korea. On the first day of the handset's preliminary launch in the country, Samsung confirmed that over 260,000 units of the new flagship were registered with the South Korea's top three mobile carriers.
Customers in the country who placed pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 started receiving their units yesterday ahead of the official release on April 21. Samsung's pre-order period for the Galaxy S8 ran from April 7-17 and brought in orders for more than 1 million units of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ combined.
The previous record for first-day registrations on launch day was held by the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung saw around 160,000 units being registered with the country's top mobile carriers on the day the Galaxy Note 7 was launched.
Industry watchers believe that the number of registered Galaxy S8 units with mobile carriers may top more than 500,000 units before April 21.
