VR movie tie-ins are a thing now. It's not uncommon for studios to cash in on the virtual reality trend by releasing short VR experiences of their big productions. You know it's a big production when Christopher Nolan is involved. His upcoming movie, Dunkirk, will hit the big screen later this month but you can check out a short Dunkirk movie VR experience right now.
Warner Bros., the studio behind this production, has worked with Microsoft, Dell and Intel to create this virtual reality experience for Dunkirk. Practical Magic was brought in as the production company.
While 360-degree VR videos are optimized for HD and 4K media, the production company had to stitch images 40 times that resolution for this VR experience. It was able to do that on Dell Blade servers and workstations that were powered by Intel Xeon processors.
Titled “Save Every Breath: The Dunkirk VR Experience,” the 360-degree short film will immerse the viewer in the world of Christopher Nolan's new movie. The three tightly woven sequences offer an interesting taste of the movie in which 400,000 Allied soldiers are stranded on a beach of Dunkirk, France while the enemy closes in.
The Dunkirk movie virtual reality experience is now available on Samsung VR. The movie itself opens July 21.
