Samsung introduced not only a new S Pen with the much-anticipated Galaxy Note 8, but also an updated suite of productivity-orientated software tools, including Live Message, PENUP and Translate, designed to make the stylus more functional than ever before.

Let's go through all of the S Pen-related features.

Live Message

We briefly touched on Live Message in our hands-on coverage, but in case you missed it, the platform allows you to create 15-second handwritten notes in the form of GIFs, which can be shared using various messaging applications, including Telegram and WhatsApp.

PENUP

The PENUP application is essentially a digital sketchpad. By taking advantage of its extensive collection of brushes and effects, you can sketch out your own creation—the SamMobile logo, for example—or color in someone else's. At present, there are more than two-hundred templates to choose from.

Screen Off Memo

Screen Off Memo has been a part of the Galaxy Note series for a while now, but with the release of the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung has introduced a new build that supports up to one-hundred pages of memos and the facility to pin notes to the Always On Display.

Translate

Samsung has refined the standard Translate feature. When you hover the S Pen over a word on the Galaxy Note 8, you can translate it into any of seventy-one different languages. It's also capable of recognizing words formatted as images, thanks to the inclusion of OCR technology.
