The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have topped the list of the best-performing smartphones in the United States, with the Galaxy S7 coming in a close third, beating the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus—which ranked fifth and fourth, respectively—according to a review conducted by Consumer Reports.
It's not all good news for Samsung, though. While the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S7 dominated the top three places, the recently-released Galaxy Note 8 ranked sixth. Consumer Reports believes that weak durability and a heavy build were the main reasons it wasn't awarded a higher position.
Galaxy S7 took home third place
We're stunned that the Galaxy S7 took home third place. Released back in 2016, the handset sports relatively modest specifications by today's standards, but a solid design, coupled with continued software updates, have made it a go-to smartphone for customers who aren't after the latest and greatest internals.
To clarify: that doesn't mean it's old hat. It's still a great smartphone, albeit not one that's able to compete with the likes of the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 on paper. In the real world, however, it's able to battle with the titans—and to have a smartphone continue to do that a year and a half after it's release is quite the achievement.
